Complex Well Technology - Core Competency 2008
This world recognized course delivers an intense 5-day
multidisciplinary program covering the latest technical advances
and
field experience with horizontal and more complex exploitation well
design, construction and operations. This asset team cross-training
program originated from the Horizontal Well JIP (DEA-44) in the early
90's. Since then the course has constantly evolved and has been
delivered over 250 times, with consistently excellent response, by Bob Knoll via numerous training entities
including Petroskills, NeXt, AAPG, SPE/CIM etc. The course is designed to provide a practical,
core-competency cross-training program to help the asset team
optimally apply these technologies to produce more oil/gas faster,
cheaper and at maximum social benefit.
Course Dates and Locations
- 12 - 16 May 2008 - Calgary, AB
- 15 - 19 September 2008 - London, UK
- 17 - 21 November 2008 - Houston, TX
Who should attend
The program will benefit managers, geologists, geophysicists,
engineers (drilling, completion, production and reservoir internal
staff and key service providers), technicians and others involved with
modern exploitation technology applications. Students with no
horizontal/complex well experience will get a good feel for the
potential of this technology; they will learn which analytical tools
are available to screen, design, and implement this exploitation
process in an optimal manner. Students with horizontal well experience
will broaden their interdisciplinary knowledge; they will learn some of
the latest technical breakthroughs and design options with respect to
complex/smart completion technologies. They will also learn about some
of the latest field experience dos and donts.
Objectives
The primary objective of this program is to provide students
(whether operator asset team, management and support staff, key service
providers or regulators) with an appreciation of the crucial
multidisciplinary aspect of optimized horizontal and complex
development
well applications. The course provides a practical-based "big picture"
of all the disciplines, issues and team functions inherent in basic
screening, design and implementation. Furthermore, it addresses the
advanced technical options of well construction, intervention and
production including multi-branch, MPD (managed pressure drilling),
CBM, UTG, SAGD, advanced stimulation/intervention options, etc. The course will
- Review successful and unsuccessful complex well technology
applications
- Expose common failure reasons and provide practical solutions
- Review well design attributes and competing completion options
- Foster multidisciplinary approach to horizontal and complex
wells
- Enhance awareness of advanced exploitation operational risks vs.
geological risks
Course format
The course follows an asset-team format and features hands-on
training using computer models and actual field data. The course agenda
includes numerous case studies, application simulations and daily
quizzes. Class exercises walk through the decision-making process from
candidate screening through multi-well development and work-over
operations. Additionally, the school reviews the latest technical
developments and novel applications.
