Improved Data Quality Solves All-In Cost Report Issues
Challenge: Across its organization, the client’s well cost data was spread out in different applications – making it difficult to find and review costs. Even the identification of each well varied from one source to another. On several occasions, the client had attempted to create an “all-in” cost report, but without any success.
Opportunity: PetrisWINDS DataVera was presented to the client as the solution based on the principle of data management through data quality. Poor data quality was a key factor in the client’s past failed attempts to create an all-in cost report. By using incomplete or inconsistent data, the client’s team was unsuccessful in matching records from its various data systems.
Solution: DataVera provided the client with a proven tool and methodology that addressed its data quality issues. With DataVera, the client was able to match data across multiple systems and create a MasterSet or registry that accessed cost data on each well. Concurrently, DataVera also alerted the client to other data quality issues within its systems of record.
Impact: By applying DataVera, the client was able to create a comprehensive all-in cost report. The project’s original scope targeted a business unit’s 5 systems of record and was completed in less than 10 weeks. Today, the all-in cost report is used at more than 5 business units and 11 systems of record for cost data. The client continues to expand its DataVera deployment into other areas beyond the cost report to solve data quality issues.
