DPLIFE – Drill-String Fatigue Life Model

Failures of tubulars from fatigue are very costly in terms of lost rig time, lost tubular goods, and even lost wells. DPLIFE helps to predict and prevent drill-string failure and the costs associated with it. The program predicts dogleg limits, maximum drill-string bending stresses, cumulative fatigue damage, and the total time and rotation of drill-string tubulars.

Advanced Engineering Features

  • Predicts build rates and dogleg limits below which drill-pipe fatigue will not occur
  • Predicts build rate/dogleg severity above which the pipe body contacts the borehole wall
  • Calculates maximum bending stress for drill-string tubulars with and without body contact to the borehole
  • Whole drill-string analysis for fatigue damage
  • Single joint analysis to predict total rotation time and cycles before failure
  • Considers effects of axial loads and corrosion

Cost Saving

  • Helps prevent costly failures of drill strings
  • Enhances operational efficiency

Easy to Use

  • Step-by-step problem solving approach
  • Can link to databases such as DIMS
  • Can create MS Office reports
  • Advanced graphics can be exported to any Windows program
  • S.I., Oilfield and mixed units

Note how drill-string life is consumed most rapidly within large doglegs

Doglegs, rotation limits and inspection intervals are calculated for any type of drill pipe and drilling conditions.

Sensitivity analysis: consumed life for different pipe grades, mud weights and corrosive environments
