Well-Planning Process
Maurer by Petris offers a full suite of well-planning software for drilling and completions (both normal & underbalanced hydraulics). We have programs for every step in the well-planning process. Our software is used daily by operators, service companies, manufacturers, and consultants around the globe. Our effective software design methods have produced a suite of powerful, user-friendly, affordable programs that are second to none.
Determine Pore and Fracture Pressures
Accurate pore, fracture and overburden pressures are at the heart of every well plan. These are needed for determining the mud program and casing-shoe depths. Use PORE to estimate these pressures from seismic two-way travel times and sonic logs.
Determine Wellbore Stability
Wellbore instability causes the majority of drilling problems, including stuck pipe, hole cleaning and excessive torque and drag. With WELLSTAB-Plus, drilling engineers can perform complex mechanical and chemical wellbore stability analysis with ease.
Design Wellbore Trajectories
Use WELLPATH to generate two- and three- dimensional well trajectories for geological targets and to manage well surveys. Avoid wellbore collisions using traveling-cylinder plots, spider maps and detailed proximity calculations that account for survey tool measurement uncertainties.
Design and Verify Casing Strings
Import pore and fracture data from PORE (or any similar application) along with wellbore surveys to determine casing-shoe depths and design casing strings. Maurer’s CASINGCK program can be used to design and verify casing strings using the latest verification methods. It is easily customizable to incorporate company-specific verification rules.
Minimize Casing Wear
Mechanical wear from tool joints rotating in casing and risers is increasingly leading to catastrophic problems including collapsed casing and offshore well-control problems. CWEAR is regarded as the industry-standard analysis tool for predicting casing and riser wear. The extent, magnitude, and location of wear are calculated, as well as its effect on burst and collapse pressures.
Design Cement Jobs
U-tubing, equivalent circulating densities (ECDs), and formation breakdown pressures are only a few of the problems that need to be considered for cementing design. Maurer's program CEMENT models cement placement by addressing these phenomena. The program predicts return rates and free-fall lengths, thereby minimizing the risk of formation breakdown.
Analyze Torque and Drag
DDRAG is a field-proven torque and drag prediction tool used by over 100 companies worldwide to avoid stuck pipe and insufficient hole cleaning, and to calculate wellbore friction factors. The program uses either a stiff- or soft-string model and the most popular tubular buckling criteria.
Verify Wellbore Hydraulics
For conventional wells, use HYDMOD to perform hydraulics calculations for surge and swab, ECD, nozzle selection, and hole-cleaning efficiency in directional wells. The use of dynamic kill procedures in slim annuli can also be analyzed. Use HTHPFLOW to determine the effects on rheological properties of high temperatures and pressures. For underbalanced wells, use the industry-standard MUDLITE air/mist/foam two-phase hydraulics program for designing your drilling and completion operations.
Plan Ahead for Well Control
WELLCON is a well-control program developed to assist drilling personnel in controlling gas kicks. The program simulates both gas influx and circulation processes for water- and oil-based drilling fluids, and can calculate kick tolerances.
Coiled-Tubing Programs
CTPRO is Maurer’s coiled-tubing job design software package used for planning CT field operations to help prevent costly failures. CTPRO calculates pick-up, slack-off and buckling loads during drilling, logging and workover operations. A companion program, CTLIFE, predicts fatigue failure of CT caused by cyclic plastic bending of the CT as it is run across the gooseneck and on/off the reel.
Easy to Learn; Easy to Use
All Maurer programs share the same user interfaces, making them much easier to use than competitors’ programs. Each program has a similar set of input tabs with “traffic lights” that guard against incorrect data. After all data have been entered, you can immediately view the results. Once you know how to run one of our programs, you can run them all!
