Editor's Corner -- 2007 has come and gone, and 2008 is well underway. This year, you can expect to hear from us more often as we switch to a monthly distribution of PetrisNEWS. We will be offering increased training opportunities in Houston, London, and new this year - Calgary.

Petris is excited to announce that, after an extensive search, Baker Hughes has chosen PetrisWINDS Enterprise (PWE) to solve their data integration needs. They will be using PWE as a solution for integrating their dispersed corporate databases so that internal staff can take advantage of the map and text querying interface to find all corporate data in a particular area of interest.

We have experienced a growing interest in DrillNET, our advanced drilling and completion engineering software framework, particularly in Russia.

With Russia's booming oil-fueled economy and the 2nd largest oil reserves in the world, it's no wonder we are seeing so much activity around drilling software.

It is said that, as a whole, the drilling industry loses $8 billion a year to non-productive time (NPT.) With the rising costs associated with drilling these days, it is imperative that the necessary precautions to avoid NPT are taken.

Studies have shown that 44% of non-productive time can be attributed to problems with pore pressure and wellbore instability. By applying formal project management techniques, such as using DrillNET, to design and plan your well, you can avoid failures caused by a lack of project definition and planning.
